Being Boundless: How Brand Copywriting Changed Everything

What's Inside This Blog

Believe it or not, writing the first piece of content for a new blog is a challenge.

Guess what? It’s even more challenging when it’s your kick-off piece for your very own blog–your passion project that’s got your name written all over it.

In the last seven years, I’ve created a successful freelance copywriter from scratch, along the way working with brands ranging from the smallest mom and pop, one-off shops to big, corporate names like Amazon, Adobe, 1-800 Flowers, Hot Topic, PacSun, New Balance, and beyond.

Before that, I hustled around newsrooms in Florida for a few years, trying like hell to tell stories and write words that made big differences while navigating a career path that’s (unfortunately) fraught with hard news and grisly crime scenes.

My college degree is in journalism, too, a major that’s very dive-in-and-sink-or-swim.

So, when I say pressure, deadlines, and telling a meaningful story the right way aren’t new concepts to me, I mean it.

This time it’s different. This time, I’m taking my tiny but rewarding little freelancing career and putting it on the table for everyone to see, shining a spotlight on it and saying, out loud, “Hey, come take a look at this!”

But this is my passion and purpose in life–I was meant to help brands find their voices, create stunning copy that makes a difference, and help people communicate and connect in ways like they never have before.

More than that, I’m meant to help people just like me who feel stuck in an I-don’t-fit-here kind of existence create something that changes everything about their life.

That all starts with this blog

And, spoiler alert, you can go ahead and multiply the challenging factor by five or six when writing and blogging is something you actually do for a living.

In other words, the pressure is on.

I’m a copywriter by trade, so I’m just going to lay it all out on the line–none of my professional experience, skill, or natural knack could have prepared me for the problem of knocking out the introductory blog to my refreshed website.

A Copywriting Brand for Small Businesses & Entrepreneurs

So, what’s this whole thing about, and first and foremost, who is Boundless Copy, anyway?

We’re copy pros. We’re brand voice experts. We’re the team that compels brands to stop just throwing meaningless words up on a web page and start crafting impactful, powerful copy that connects, inspires, and points squarely back to their brand with every sentence.

I’m Hanna Marcus, the Co-Founder and Head Copywriter for Boundless Copy.

Full disclosure: my fellow Co-Founder and Copywriter Riley Woods isn’t just my business partner; he’s my husband, too (trust me when I say I lucked out big time).

Why Brand & Small Business Copywriting?

In other words–why Boundless Copy?

I pride myself on being a bit nomadic and geographically unpredictable.

Some of the greatest joy in my life has come from being in one place on a Monday and the entirely opposite end of the country by Thursday simply because I felt like it.

Time and time again, I’ve had friends, colleagues, and even family look at me and say, “you’re never where I think you are, huh?”

And to me, that’s kind of the point.

For the last several years, I’ve hiked, driven, camped, flown, and relentlessly explored my way through the United States and beyond.

My husband and I build out overlanding vehicles (like my Ford Transit, our Jeep Gladiators, our F-250 Scout Campers Kenai build–you get the point) in our spare time.

When I say spare time, I mean most of the time. We love to camp around the country on a whim and discover new places when we want to simply because it’s what makes us feel the most alive and present in the world around us.

That semi-nomadic lifestyle didn’t just happen upon us; we built it alongside building our copywriting business to show the world–and ourselves–that there’s no limit to what you can accomplish if you want it bad enough.

Why a Boundless Approach to Life (& Work) Matters

Two copywriters sit on the banks of an Oregon river, laughing and discussing copywriting strategy.

I genuinely believe I was born to take a boundless approach to life. But not just me–I actually think we’re all born to do that.

There’s no limit to what can be accomplished, what can be conquered, what can be created if you’re willing to put your whole self, all of your intention, and a never-ending dose of hard work into it.

From the start, I never quite fit the 9-5 mold. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not a bad path in life at all–it just never felt right for me.

Every time I found myself sitting at a desk, I was staring out a window, wondering what was going on in the world–thinking, if I could just step outside and start exploring, I’d find something remarkable.

I did try my hand at a semi-normal career at first. But after flitting through newsrooms telling tough stories time and time again (and a brief flirtation with a job in Public Relations), I realized I was never going to unleash my potential as a writer or a person if I was trying to stuff myself into someone else’s boundaries.

I wanted–and needed–to create something for myself that allowed me to connect with people, make dreams come to fruition, change lives, and most importantly, use the thing I loved the most to make it all happen–language.

Boundless Copy is the culmination of that dream.

We take words and make them matter. With blogs, emails, web copy, sales copy–whatever someone might need to better connect with whom they want to connect with, we tackle it head-on (and pretty well, I might add).

This business is more than just a way to make money, fuel our love for adventure, and knock that 9-5 lifestyle out of our way.

It’s our jumping-the-fence take on life that says to anyone who meets us or works with us that excellence sometimes means taking the kicking-boundaries-to-the-curb approach.

Your Brand's Copy is Our Speciality

We’re both writers by trade who have a few writing degrees (both traditional and creative) between us.

This collaboration to form Boundless Copy? It’s not really new.

Riley and I have been working together as freelance copywriters for years. While the brand and the aesthetic of Boundless Copy is a fresh take, the teamwork and work ethic behind it has been curated and developed for a long time.

We’d love to get to know you, learn more about your business, and show you how branded, strategic copy can bridge that gap in your business to help you lead your version of a boundless life.
